Including kids in your creative art time can feel a little bit daunting at first. Here are a few easy tips to help you have a successful experience creating art with your kids.
1. Having all of the materials out and accessible for your kids to see is the first set in setting appropriate expectations for all involved. Having the paper, paints, paintbrushes, markers, etc. out ahead of time will cut down on any potential meltdowns before you even start.
2. Aprons can be very helpful for keeping paint off of clothing, as most paints are not washable.
3. Having options available to choose from with encourage creativity.
4. Having some examples out can help to get the process started for kids who are unsure of what they want to draw or paint.
5. Don’t worry about the mess or trying to tell your kiddo what they should or shouldn’t be painting. Some kids love to paint pictures the way the draw - with details and keeping colors separate - while other kids love to paint more by feeling and just putting different colors on the paper and seeing what happens when the different colors mix. Both ways of creating art are good for kids.
And lastly, remember that creating art is messy and fun!
